VAT Number or VAT registration number is the unique number that identifies a taxable organization or non-taxable legal entity that is registered for VAT. Most organizations carrying out an economic activity need a VAT number.
- VAT numbers are used to identify tax status of the customer
- Help to identify the place of taxation
- Are mentioned on invoices
VAT numbers are different for each European country. Every EU country issues its own national VAT number that begins with a respective country code and is followed by a block of digits or characters.
If you are still unsure, you can find more information about VAT numbers here, on the European Commission's website.
